That girl is fondly called Lang-Lang. She's in her early teens and currently studying in high school. She's the only female skim boarder in Amihan Team and she taught me how to surf. She's not only good at surfing, she is great at skim boarding, too, as you can see from the photo above.
Lang-Lang seems to be the odd person within the team being the only female, the only rose among the thorns, as they say. But, she's never alone because she has her kuya Bayogyog, who happens to be the ultimate achiever in Amihan Team. Just recently, Bayogyog was declared champion in a skim boarding competition held in Leyte. Bayogyog and Lang-Lang Aporbo are truly worth emulating.

The Aporbo siblings did not let poverty get in the way, instead, they used their talents and skills to be able to go to school and be successful in their endeavors. You will often find these two, along with the other members of the Amihan Team, scouting the best waves to practice. Visit them at Amihan sa Dahican, Mati City, Davao Oriental.
One of the best beaches I've visited. Would like to go back to Dahican again.
ReplyDeleteTheir story is very inspiring. I admire Lang-lang for surviving the sport :)

ReplyDeleteWow I want to meet Lang-Lang! She's good maybe she can teach me too.. Hehe. Haven't tried this and I know it's not easy. Great story here about the siblings, great to know of their success story. May they inspire other people to reach their dreams and be successful despite the poverty.
