Startup Weekend Davao has started. Attendees will be tested in a 54-hour event from pitching ideas, choosing a project, into finally making a prototype of an app over a single weekend.
My group has chosen to do an educational application specifically designed for preschoolers. We named our app "Book Land."
In line with this project, we created a Facebook Page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bookland/506368902720717 and we sure do hope that you can like our page to show your support.
We also created a twitter account over at https://twitter.com/BookLandGame. Follow us for updates regarding our app.
Do share with us in the comments section if you think that an educational website or mobile app would be a great way for children to learn. Help us build the app by telling us the kind of learnings that you want your child to get from an educational mobile app.
You can also help us collect some data by answering our 5-question survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8C5C8DX.
Thanks for your support!
Well, while some of these kids are already allowed to tinker with their mom or dad's precious gadgets, I think a book related app is a brilliant idea. ~ http://www.theurbanwalker.net/
ReplyDeleteI dont think the kids needs these too advance apps. I still like the old way of teaching ..buy them the ABAKADA book or any book . Classroom is still the best for them to learn and not with any of this stuff.
ReplyDeleteI share Tess sentiments. Mukhang very advance ata ang approach. A face-to-face inter action is a more apt approach.
ReplyDeleteThough kids are into today's technology, I still use some books that she could use to turn pages. And no technology can beat parental intervention IMO.
ReplyDeleteI hope they develop a really good app as the better it is, the more effective it will be to encourage kids to read.
ReplyDeletewe have to encourage people to read a lot starting with the kids. this way, they wouldn't just be smart but really smart.
ReplyDeleteIf you're familiar with Salman Khan Academy they offer education thru youtube on a step by step process, yes, in our world today we're living it virtually! Kudos clap-clap
ReplyDeleteFinally, an educational app. Great to know such applications exist.
ReplyDeleteOf course! kid will like this.. an educational software is really an effective additional help especially to children who find it hard to learn in school..
ReplyDeleteit depends on the kid if he / she adapts well when learning through one. it doesn't hurt to try.
ReplyDeletechildren should really explore various means to acquire knowledge and learn. they need to take on both the traditional and innovative ways to maximize results
ReplyDeleteAn educational app is quite welcome since we cannot seem to prevent children from completely avoiding computer use. However, the traditional way of learning should not be set aside especially in forming a child's foundation.
ReplyDeletehere's for the success of your app.. Bookland!
ReplyDeleteTechnology is a great help for learning. Mas excited and mas effective sa mga pre-schoolers to use gadgets like tablets for learning. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI'd love for the app to have all the programs on basic foundations! including flash cards, memory games... good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi! This is a great idea. I was looking for something that will help my child in reading and listening where the child could listen to the narrator while looking at the words being highlighted while being read. I'll look forward to your app :)
ReplyDeleteThis is really good for the kids! they will help and develop them, explore and learn many things. I will relay this app to my nieces and friends :) Thanks !
ReplyDeleteThanks for this very informative post. Exciting!!!
ReplyDeleteLike others said it is good for the kids but for me as a mother of a pre-schooler I prefer the old ways of teaching which in fact I am using in the house.
