Pops Resto Bar

My first encounter with Pops Resto Bar was way back my high school graduation. That's twelve years ago. (Can you guess my age now?)And up to this day, although Pops has changed its location and of course upgraded to a new level, Pops has continued to serve the Davao market with good food and cozy ambience.

Pops Resto Bar is located at CVA Building, Quirino Street, Davao City.

When I pass by Pops, all I could think about was that very yummy mashed potato served with my sizzling steak 12 years ago. Good thing that I was able to dine at Pops recently and then I realized that they have somehow made quite a turn from the old Pops that I know. For one, there was no band playing at Pops but there was good music on the background. Second, there's more lighting now, very different from the dim lit bar setting years ago.

Here's a snapshot of their menu. I can see that they are now offering burgers and sandwiches and there seems to be quite a lot of advertisements about it in their resto. It's really tempting to try but I was there for the good old Pinoy favorite - rice!

I pre-ordered one Baked Iberian Chicken, which by the way was 55% off courtesy of Groupon. I had my first Iberian Chicken from Pepper and Peppers (also courtesy of Groupon) and I kind of remembered how I loved the taste of Iberian Chicken despite my allergies to poultry.

Pops Resto Bar's Baked Iberian Chicken hit my expectations. The chicken was baked to perfection, without being dry. The meat was tender and was bursting with flavor. It was floating on oil but I didn't mind. Even the slices of potatoes were flavorful. I love it!

Beau ordered some sinuglaw which seems to be a weird companion for chicken. We also ordered kinilaw on our first Iberian Chicken adventure. I didn't quite have much share of the sinuglaw but I can safely say that it's a decent dish to order.

My Pops experience was a good one. The service is really great and I appreciate the waiter's effort in opening the door for me us when we arrived. The restaurant is also the perfect size to host a small party. With their current ambiance, I think that it's also safe to gather a handful of friends for a quick meeting or chillax time after office hours.

I'll be back soon to have their burger.

UPDATE 8/2013: THIS ESTABLISHMENT HAS CLOSED.
