Amihan sa Dahican

It was a skim and surf weekend for me and my classmates as we traveled to Dahican in Mati City. We got there via a 3-hour travel by van  from Davao City to Mati City, courtesy of our driver, Kuya Abel, and another 10-minute travel from the Mati City proper to Amihan, Dahican.

Dahican is a 7-kilometer stretch of white sand beach and though not developed, it still remains as my most favorite beach spot in the whole Philippines.

Amihan sa Dahican is home of the Amihan Team, a team of young skimboarders and surfers and founded by George G. Plaza, a.k.a. Kuya Jun. If you want to know more about Kuya Jun, he was featured in Everyday Heroes section of the Reader's Digest October 2010 issue. Read the RD issue here. To know more about the Amihan Team, read here and here.

Amihan sa Dahican does not have any closed overnight accommodations but you can set up your tent or rent their duyan (hammock). There are no nearby stores so it's a must for you to bring food for the duration of your stay. You can cook your food on site at their kitchen. There are no extra charges if you want to use their kitchen but make sure to bring your own supplies such as uling (charcoal). Our group brought a burner so we need not wait for the other guests and locals to finish cooking before we could use the kitchen. If you do not want to set up your own tent, there are other resorts in Dahican, such as the Botona Beach Resort, Kubo sa Dahican, and Kanakbai. These are all along the Dahican coast.

In Amihan sa Dahican, you can do both skimboarding and surfing. You need not bring your own boards, specially if you don't have one, because there are skimboards and surfboards available on site for rent. You'll be amazed at how young boys and girls are so good at these watersports. You'll be challenged to learn how to skim and surf once you see them catching and riding waves so effortlessly!

On April, there will be a skimboarding competition at Amihan sa Dahican. I hope that I could go back to Mati in time for the upcoming event.

  5. amazing!
I've never heard of the Mati City before..
    At least I learned something.
Cool surfers! I tried learning how to surf last year, in Zambales..
But man, it was tough and kind of addicting.
I sure wanna do it again soon!

  20. iba talaga ang surfer bodies! haha. hardcore. Medyo mahal pala ang transportation. May commuting options kaya? I'll be in Davao this April or May and 2nd-timer na. hehe

  21. pwede kang mag Van (P220 per person) or Bus (P300 per person) papuntang Mati. Then hire a tricycle papuntang Dahican (I think the tricycle just costs around P30)

=) thanks for asking. i will update my blog post after I confirm the exact prices from the bus and van companies. hehehe!

  25. I've been to Mati once but never heard of this place.  Yung rate ng van medyo may kamahalan but going there in a group would sure save you some.

    ReplyDelete
  26. pakyaw kasi namin kinuha yung van so medyo mahal. but then, we were 10 in the group so comparable with the bus fare pa rin and individual expenses namin. =)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Masao is good place if you want to swim. sa gitna ng dagat ka talaga magsu-swimming. pero may vest naman. you should explore mati. 3 hours away lang naman siya from davao. =)

  28. with tent and hammock that cheap, Dahican is the place. the van is a bummer though. oh well with 18 folks to divide it looks reasonable for a cool surfing and skimboarding.

  29. I prefer  undeveloped beaches.. ang ganda nya! You are one lucky girl!!

  30. No accommodations and no stores? That sounds like Survivor Amihan. :) Well, I guess that's part of the attraction - to be that close to nature. Btw, haven't heard of skimboarding before. What is it?

    ReplyDelete
  31. What a nice get away. MMM. I tried skim boarding but I easily get tired and I hate it when my body hits the sand every time I fall. Lol. But That was a good experience though. I wanna visit the place. Looking at those ABS, parang gusto ko mag skim boarding na rin ng todo. Hahaha.
